Canon PowerShot SD700 IS Canon SD700 IS Digital ELPH (IXUS 800) Concise Review,July 2006, Simon Joinson

Canon PowerShot SD700 IS Review based on a production Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS (SD700 IS)Announced just before PMA 2006 in February, the 6 megapixel SD700 IS is the new flagship model in the long-running and very successful IXUS / Digital ELPH range. The SD 700 IS is the first Canon ultra-compact ever to feature optical image stabilization, and the first to sport a 4x zoom lens, though in most other respects it is very similar to the previous top of the range SD550. Ostensibly a point and shoot fully automatic model, the SD700 IS nevertheless has a fairly comprehensive feature set packed into its slim metal body. Lets start, as usual, with the headline features:6.0 million effective pixels4x (35-140mm equiv.) zoomISO 800 and optical IS for flash-free indoor shootingCanons DIGIC II image processor, iSAPS and 9-point AiAFWide viewing angle 2.5" LCD screen16 shooting modesMy Colors photo effectsWidescreen (16:9) stills recording30fps VGA moviesSD700 IS / IXUS 800 specifications Street priceNamingBody MaterialSensorImage sizesMovie clipsFile formatsLensImage stabilizationConversion lensesDigital zoomFocusAF area modesAF assist lampFocus distanceMeteringISO sensitivityExposure compensationShuttter speedApertureModesScene modesWhite balanceSelf timerContinuous shootingImage parametersFlashViewfinderLCD monitorConnectivityPrint complianceStoragePowerOther featuresWeight (No batt)Dimensions

Conclusion / Recommendation / Ratings are based on the opinion of the reviewer, you should read the ENTIRE review before coming to your own conclusions.Images which can be viewed at a larger size have a small magnifying glass icon in the bottom right corner of the image, clicking on the image will display a larger (typically VGA) image in a new window. To navigate the review simply use the next / previous page buttons, to jump to a particular section either pick the section from the drop down or select it from the navigation bar at the top.DPReview calibrate their monitors using Color Vision OptiCal at the (fairly well accepted) PC normal gamma 2.2, this means that on our monitors we can make out the difference between all of the (computer generated) grayscale blocks below. We recommend to make the most of this review you should be able to see the difference (at least) between X,Y and Z and ideally A,B and C.
